Communication Misunderstood

Communication skills are considered an essential soft skill that everyone must develop.

But there is a misunderstanding about what this skill actually means.

Many people focus on learning how to speak fluently or how to express themselves correctly. But what you really need to develop is the ability to have a good conversation.

A conversation is a two-way process. Apart from speaking, it includes the art of listening.

And right now, so many people lack the ability to truly listen or pay attention to others. Instead of listening to the person on the other side, they are just waiting for their turn to speak — to prove their point.

There is nothing wrong with being clear about what you want to say. But give others the chance to share what they have got.

A good conversation follows three steps: listen, process, speak. And this cycle repeats.

Make sure you are paying enough attention to others when you are having a conversation. It will help you build healthier relationships with the people around you.
